About the Onion Archive
Preserving the hidden web — one .onion page at a time.
What We Do
The Onion Archive crawls and snapshots publicly accessible .onion websites, creating a permanent, searchable record of the Tor hidden services ecosystem. We've saved over 4 million pages and add thousands more every day.
Like the Internet Archive for the clearnet, we believe that even ephemeral or controversial corners of the web deserve preservation — for research, journalism, and historical understanding.
How It Works
- Our crawlers run exclusively over Tor, respecting .onion connectivity.
- We only archive publicly reachable pages
- Anyone can submit a URL to be archived immediately via the Save Page Now tool.
- Snapshots are stored redundantly and served through our own .onion mirror.
We do not host, control, or endorse any content found on archived sites. Our role is strictly archival.
